This patch adds internal function equivalents of all the INT_FN functions.
Unlike the math functions, these functions never set errno and the internal
functions should be exactly equivalent to the built-in ones. The reason
for defining the internal functions is so that we can extend the
functionality to other modes, in particular vector modes.
Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi.
gcc/
* internal-fn.def (DEF_INTERNAL_INT_FN): New macro.
(CLRSB, CLZ, CTZ, FFS, PARITY, POPCOUNT): New functions.
* builtins.c (associated_internal_fn): Handle them.

This patch adds internal functions for simple FLT_FN built-in functions,
in cases where an associated optab already exists. Unlike some of the
built-in functions, these internal functions never set errno.
LDEXP is an odd-one out in that its second operand is an integer.
All the others operate on uniform types.
The patch also adds a function to query the internal function associated
with a built-in function (if any), and another to test whether a given
gcall could be replaced by a call to an internal function on the current
target (as long as the caller deals with errno appropriately).
Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi.

I was confused at first why tree-core.h was undefining DEF_BUILTIN_CHKP
before defining it, then undefining it again after including builtins.def.
This is because builtins.def provides a default definition of
DEF_BUILTIN_CHKP, but leaves it up to the caller to undefine it where
necessary. Similarly to the previous internal-fn.def patch, it seems
more obvious for builtins.def to #undef things unconditionally.
One argument might have been that keeping preprocessor stuff
out of the .def files makes it easier for non-cpp parsers. In practice
though we already have #ifs and multiline #defines, so single-line #undefs
should be easy in comparison.
Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi.

This patch moves folds that deal with constant string arguments and
return a constant integer or floating-point value. For example, it
handles strcmp ("foo", "bar") but not strstr ("foobar", "bar"),
which wouldn't currently be accepted by the gimple folders.
The builtins.c folding for strlen (via c_strlen) is a bit more general
than what the fold-const-call.c code does (and more general than we need
for the gimple folders). I've therefore left it as-is, even though it
partially duplicates the new code.
Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi.

Upcoming patches to fold-const-call.c want to use c_getstr, which is
currently defined in builtins.c. The function doesn't really do anything
related to built-ins, and I'd rather not make fold-const-call.c depend
on builtins.c and builtins.c depend on fold-const-call.c, so this patch
moves the function to fold-const.c instead.
Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi.

The new routines operate on the built-in enum rather than on tree decls.
The idea is to extend this to handle internal functions too, with a
combined enum for both.
The patch also moves fold_fma too, with the same prototype. The long-term
plan is to replace FMA_EXPR with an internal function, for consistency
with the way that things like SQRT will be handled.
Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, arm-linux-gnueabi and aarch64-linux-gnu.

Most real.h routines used machine modes to specify the format of
an operation and converted that to a float_format * internally.
Some also had alternative versions that accepted a float_format *.
In an upcoming patch it seemed more convenient for the callers
I was adding to use float_format directly, since the callers need
to examine the format themselves for other reasons. This patch
therefore replaces the machine_mode arguments with a new class that
allows both machine modes and float_format pointers to be used.
Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, arm-linux-gnueabi and aarch64-linux-gnu.

fold_builtin_logb and fold_builtin_significand now only handle
constant arguments, so this patch renames them to fold_const...,
to match fold_const_builtin_pow. The idea is to differentiate
constant-only folds so that they can be moved to a const_binop-like
function in future.
The functions also had some unnecessary calls to STRIP_NOPS, which
I think are left over from code that has already moved to match.pd.

This moves the fold rules for trunc, floor, ceil, round, nearbyint and
rint in one go, since they're tested as a group. Most of the code is
supporting the f(x)->x fold when x is known to be integer-valued.
Like with the non-negative test, this is probably more elegantly handled
by tracking range information for reals, but until that happens, I think
we should handle it analogously to tree_expr_nonnegative_p.
I've incorporated the fix for PR68031 in the new version of
integer_valued_real_p. However, it seemed confusing to test for an
SSA name at the head of the function rather than the case statement,
and not fall through to tree_simple_nonnegative_warnv_p (which
conceptually shouldn't care whether an update is in progress).
But tree_simple_nonnegative_warnv_p is a no-op for SSA names,
so I simply changed it to:
return (!name_registered_for_update_p (t)
&& depth < PARAM_VALUE (PARAM_MAX_SSA_NAME_QUERY_DEPTH)
&& gimple_stmt_nonnegative_warnv_p (SSA_NAME_DEF_STMT (t),
strict_overflow_p, depth));
and used that in the new code too.
Doing these folds later meant that IPA would start to use information
about the aborting sinf and floor in 20030125-1.c before the folds
kicked in. I changed them from noinline to weak to stop that.
Tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabi.

The fold code also expanded cabs(x+yi) to fsqrt(x*x+y*y) when optimising
for speed. tree-ssa-math-opts.c has this transformation too, but unlike
the fold code, it first checks whether the target implements the sqrt
optab. The patch simply removes the fold code and keeps the
tree-ssa-math-opts.c logic the same.
gcc.dg/lto/20110201-1_0.c was relying on us replacing cabs
with fsqrt even on targets where fsqrt is itself a library call.
The discussion leading up to that patch suggested that we only
want to test the fold on targets with a square root instruction,
so it would be OK to skip the test on other targets:
https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2011-07/msg01961.html
https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2011-07/msg02036.html
The patch does that using the sqrt_insn effective target.
It's possible that removing the tree folds renders the LTO trick
unnecessary, but since the test was originally for an ICE, it seems
better to leave it as-is.

This patch moves the sqrt and cbrt simplification rules to match.pd.
builtins.c now only does the constant folding.
Bootstrapped & regression-tested on x86_64-linux-gnu.
gcc/

We have a global 1/2 and a cached 1/3, but recalculate 1/4, 1/6 and 1/9
each time we need them. That seems a bit arbitrary and makes the folding
code more noisy (especially once it's moved to match.pd).
This patch caches the other three constants too. Bootstrapped &
regression-tested on x86_64-linux-gnu.

Richard B suggested we should replace dconsthalf etc. with
dconst<1, 2> (). When I tried that, the extra comma caused problems
with some lingering uses of the old target macros for handling reals
(e.g. REAL_ARITHMETIC instead of real_arithmetic), since the constant
was then treated as two macro parameters. It would have been possible
to add an extra level of brackets to avoid this, but I thought I might
as well take the opportunity to remove the macros instead. (Note that
I'm only removing macros that caused a problem directly, or are closely
related to ones that did.)
This first patch replaces REAL_VALUES_EQUAL with a real_equal function.
The prototype is the same as for real_identical, which has already
undergone a half-transition in this direction.
Bootstrapped & regression-tested on x86_64-linux-gnu. Also tested by
building one target per CPU directory and checking that there were
no new warnings and no changes in testsuite output at -O2.
